Trainee Rules

Trainees are the lowest level of training among the Warders, and are expected to follow more rules than Sworn, who have earned their position in the Tower. It is the belief within the Tower that rules create self-discipline, which is needed for focus and concentration within weapons training.

Warders and Sworn are aware of the rules governing channeling students, and would not hesitate to turn in a wayward Trainee. Trainees who are caught are sent to the Master of Arms to be punished. All students are directly overseen by the Master of Arms or his designates.

In-Character Trainee Rules

  1. Trainees are expected to obey Warders and Aes Sedai, without question. Sworn and Accepted should be treated with virtually the same respect and obedience.

  2. Trainees may leave the Tower without permission, though it is requested that they take a Sworn with them when visiting the city. They may not leave the city without express permission from the Master Gaidin, Master of Arms, or Amyrlin Seat.

(Real permission is needed to leave the city and should be obtained prior to leaving.)

  3. Trainees should conduct themselves at all times with honor and show respect to all superiors. (Tower Servants, Proven, Accepted, Gaidin and Aes Sedai)

  4. Trainees should not have any real weapons in their possession without express order/permission. Permission can be obtained only by a full Gaidin or Aes Sedai.

  5. Trainees may not fight unless they are supervised by a Sworn or Gaidin.

  6. Trainees may not use threats of violence to coerce another, nor should they initiate any physical confrontations.

  7. Trainees must cmplete their assigned chores on time and to the satisfaction of the one who assigned them.

  8. Trainees must be clean and presentable at all times they are not in physical training or performing chores. Their barracks rooms must be cleaned daily.

  9. Trainees must attend their daily lessons faithfully and within a timely manner. Sparring practice, class work, and study should be completed by the assignment dates given.

  10. Trainees should avoid physical contact with all women. Romantic entanglements should also be avoided, full concentration on studies is demanded.

NOTE: This is for RP purposes. Basically, if you're caught you'll be separated and punished, as long as you're a Trainee or Sworn. If such contact continues, there is a chance you will be put out of the Tower.

  11. Trainees must rise and retire at the specified bells. Lights out means just that, there is to be no discussion, congregation, study, or anything else after that time.

(This is for RP purposes only, you are not required to slavishly obey +time/ic. The rule is there when you want to play ot a "lights out" scene, and you can play it being a different time of the day when you don't.)

  12. On free days, Trainees have no chores or studies, but other Trainee rules remain in effect.

  13. Trainees are permitted visitors, provided they are not disruptive to the Tower routine, or the student's studies or chores. Visitors are not permitted in the living quarters or private areas of th Tower.

OOC: Now, this does not mean that the rules were not meant to be broken, as it is well known that Trainees try to slip away from the Tower and pull pranks quite frequently, however please be aware that if you do those things, there will be IC consequences if you are caught.

Out-Of-Character Trainee Rules

Trainees should get permission for all TPs, TP involvement or RP activity that deviates significantly from the normal life of a Trainee. (Playing a prank would be part of normal life, being bonded while still a Trainee, getting married, becoming heir to a throne are all things outside of the normal life of a Trainee. If you aren't sure, please ask before proceeding with the RP.)

In-Character Trainee Punishments

There are times in the Tower when Trainees break the rules. During such occassions, if they are caught, they are sent to the Master of Arms's office to receive a punishment. Often times, if the matter is a first offense, the boy will receive a lecture, and some sort of minor punishment: though there are occassions when the student requires something more.

Punishments are kept strictly between the Trainee, Master of Arms, and the Master Gaidin. The only exception to this is banishment from the Warder Training program, which usually becomes public knowledge when the failed Trainee leaves with his things. Any punishments incrued must be completed on top of any lessons or chores the Trainee is already responsible for completing.

The following is a list of punishments the Master of Arms might use when disciplining the students.

Extra Chores/Hard Labor
Extra chores in addition to the ones already assigned. Depending on the situation, particularly labor intensive chores may be assigned, such as: mucking out stalls, scrubbing pots and pans, etc.

Corporeal Punishment
A punishment delivered to the body - such as switching, spanking, washing one's mouth out with soap, etc.

RemovalSuspension of Priveledges
A punishment that deprives the Trainee of an expected priveledge or enjoyment - banned from sparring X amount of time, not allowed free day off, no visitors, etc.

Complete Suspesion of Training/Dismissal
Usually only reserved for particularly harsh infractions -- one may be suspended from training and sent to the farm for a period of time or completely dismissed from the Tower entirely.

Out-Of-Character Trainee Punishments

When a Trainee is caught doing something he shouldn't be doing, he should be sent to the Master of Arms office, with a report (@mail) sent on his behavior to the Master of Arms and all of his designates. This way, those in charge can determine an appropriate punishment to give the student.

The Master of Arms and his designates are the only ones who should be punishing the students, however there are some occassions where a Gaidin may need to do something in a particular situation. If this is the case, Gaidin may not issue extreme punishments. Those are reserved for the Master of Arms and the Master Gaidin to determine. Gaidin may issue light, minor punishments to students, such as extra chores or extra hard practice sessions.

It is the Master of Arms responsibility to make certain that the punishment is not something that over-restricts the character so much that it seals away any RP opportunities they might have. He should, if possible, work with the student OOCly to find an appropriate punishment. Though, if the student is uncooperative, he has the power and authority to issue any punishment necessary.

Trainees and Romance

In the past there have been a few problems with people disregarding the rule about Trainees and Novices getting involved in a romantic fashion, so much so that we've had to devise a way to 'punish' students in an IC fashion. Below are a list of consequences of what may happen if a Novice or Accepted is caught in a romantic relationship with a Trainee, Sworn, or Guest of the Tower.

First Offense. Novice/Trainee will be split up and forbidden to see one another

Second Offence. Trainee will be asked to leave the Tower.

Any Other Offenses. Novice will be asked to leave the Tower.

Keep in mind that Trainees and Sworn are not supposed to have time to get romantically involved. It's also -very- hard to have such a relationship without getting caught. Eyes are everywhere. Remember the NPC's, they watch, they tell. If you decide you wish your character to break that particular rule, be prepared to pay the consequences. There are no exceptions. -Everyone- is taught this when they become a student.

As a side note, Sworn should not feel as if they are exempt from this rule because their status is not pointed out specifically. Everything that applies to the Trainees applies to the Sworn as well.
